Deutsch Plus – Programme 8

Commentary: Romance may be in the air at D Plus. Susanne and Dieter? Elke and UIIi? But at the kiosk they’re talking money. Two hundred marks to bring a packet from Amsterdam.

PRIMA PLUS OFFICE
Frau Maier: So, liebe Leute, ich bin weg. Ich wünsche euch allen ein schönes Wochenende.
So, my dears, I’m off now. I wish you all a nice weekend.
Anna: Gleichfalls, Frau Maier.
Likewise, Frau Maier.
Frau Maier: Tschüs!
Bye!
Frau Weiss (answers phone): Weiss. Ja... Frau Weiss am Apparat. Ja. Herr
Antonescu, sprechen Sie Russisch?
Frau Weiss speaking. I’m sorry, I can’t understand you. I don’t speak Russian. One moment, please. Herr Antonescu, do you speak Russian?
Nico: Ja. Ich spreche Russisch.
Yes, I speak Russian.
Come to the telephone. There’s a man who hardly speaks German.
(Nico takes the phone and starts to speak in Russian. Frau Weiss’s cameraman enters the office.)
Cameraman: Hallo, Leute! Wie geht’s?
Hello, folks. How are you?
UIIi: Hallo, Jürgen. Willst du einen Kaffee?
Hello, Jürgen. Would you like a coffee?
Cameraman: Ja, gerne.
Yes, please.
Nico: Do svidanya.
(He puts down the phone).
Frau Weiss: Na?
Well?
He’ll be in the pub at twelve o’clock on Sunday.
Anna: Zwölf Uhr nachts?
Twelve o’clock at night?
Nico: Nein, zwölf Uhr mittags.
No, twelve o’clock midday.
Frau Weiss: Und welches Lokal?
And which pub?
Nico: Wie bitte?
I beg your pardon?
Frau Weiss: Wie heißt das Lokal?
What’s the pub called?
Nico: Es heißt Petersberger Hof. Das Lokal heißt Petersberger Hof.
It’s called Petersberger Hof. The pub is called Petersberger Hof.
Frau Weiss: Petersberger Hof. Gut! Danke, Herr Antonescu.
Petersberger Hof Good! Thanks, Herr Antonescu.
Anna: Klasse, Nico!
Terrific, Nico!
(Frau Maier’s phone rings).
Nico: Schon gut, ich gehe dran. Antonescu, Apparat Maier. Ach, du bist es, Elke. Danke. Nein, sie ist schon weg.
OK, I’ll get it. Antonescu, Frau Maier’s phone. Ah, it’s you Elke. Thanks. No, she’s gone already.
(He Iooks through the papers strewn about the desk).
Ach ja, hier ist sie. Ich bring’ sie dir runter. Tschüs.
Yes, here it is. I’ll bring it down to you. Bye.

EDITING SUITE
Elke: Vielen Dank. Na, wie geht’s?
Thanks very much. Well, how’s it going?
Nico: Gut, danke.
Well, thanks. It’s going really well with the telephone.
Elke: Na, siehst du! Das freut mich.
You see! I’m glad.
Yes, and at the weekend I’m going to Amsterdam.
Elke: Mensch! Das ist ja super!
Man! That’s great!
Yes, but... how about tickets?
That’s not too difficult, either. When you arrive at the station, you go to the travel centre.
Nico: Die Reisezentrum?
Elke: Nein, nicht ,die’, ,das' Reisezentrum. Komm, setz dich und öffne deine Datei.
No, not the (‘die’) travel centre, the (‘das’) travel centre. Come on, sit down and open your file.
Nico (at Computer): Also - das Reisezentrum.
So - the travel centre.
Elke: Da kaufst du deine Fahrkarte.
That’s wher you buy your ticket.
Nico: Die Fahrkarte...
The ticket...

Nico: Zum Bahnsteig. Bahnsteig... der, die oder das?
To the platform.
The (‘der’) platform ... and then there’s the Eurocity.
Nico: Der Eurocity?
The (‘der’) Eurocity?
Yes, the (‘der’) Eurocity or EC. Those are the express trains, which go abroad.

VOX POPS - COLOGNE MAIN STATION
Frau Weiss: Entschuldigen Sie bitte.
Excuse me, please. I don’t  know my way round here and I’m looking  for the travel centre.
Can’t a person go through (the station) without being talked at? I haven’t got any time.

STUDIO
Hülya: Na, liebe Zuschauer? Sind wir Deutschen freundlich oder unfreundlich?
Well, viewers? Are we Germans friendly or unfriendly?

BACK TO STATION
Excuse me, please. Have you got a moment? I don’t know my way round here. I’m looking for the travel centre.
No problem. Look over there to the left, and there it’s already written Travel Centre. You go in there.
Frau Weiss: Vielen Dank.
Thank you very much.
Man: Nichts zu danken. Wiedersehen.
Not at all. Goodbye.
Frau Weiss: Entschuldigen Sie. Wo bekomme ich eine Fahrkarte?
Excuse me, please. wher can I buy a ticket?
Over there on the right, round the corner. You can get tickets there.
Yes, if you go straight on and then right, round the corner, about twenty meters along is a ticket counter. Ask there...
Another man: Bahnsteig 5, wenn Sie da vorne den Gang entlang gehen.
Platform 5, go along the corridor just ahead.
Another man: Die Fahrpläne hängen aus.
The train timetables are displayed. If you look at the boards over there you’ll be able to see which trains leave soon.
Could I disturb you for a moment? I don’t  know my way round here and I’m looking for the travel centre.
Woman: Also wirklich!
Really! Are you blind or just pretending to be? If you’re really too stupid to read the sign there, then you’d be better off staying at home!
