德语语法（英德对照）-Saying 'from'

When you say from, you can use two words - aus or von.

Aus is used with countries and place names.

Ich komme aus Deutschland

I come from Germany.

In most other cases, you use von.
Von can change depending on whether the word that follows it is a masculine, feminine or neuter noun.

With der or das words, von changes to vom, which is short for von + dem:

der Alexanderplatz
Ich komme vom Alexanderplatz.
das Krankenhaus
Ich komme vom Krankenhaus. 

With die words, von and die change to von der.

die Universität
Ich komme von der Universität.
