Going somewher by means of transport
Whilst English talks of travelling "by" a means of transport (with no definite article), German uses the preposition "mit" with the appropriate form of the definite article in the dative case - e.g. "Ich fahre mit dem Rad", "er fährt mit dem Flugzeug". The preposition "mit" always takes the dative case.
